ArmaLite’s National Match sights are different from standard sights and require special sighting procedures. Begin the process by studying the Operator’s Manual.

Since match rifles are used with a variety of special cartridges, the range markings of the standard elevation scale aren’t correct. In addition, the ArmaLite National Match sight has finer adjustments: it is adjustable in half minute clicks (1/2 inch at 100 yards) rather than the coarser adjustments of standard sights. ArmaLite’s special National Match elevation scales are therefore marked in half minute clicks, with 25 clicks per revolution. The elevation index is marked at 0,5,10,15, and 20 clicks. At click 25 the index returns to 0.

The National Match front sight is a tapered blade: the rear surface is somewhat wider than the front. It slopes from the rear surface down to the front. It must be adjusted in complete turns to keep the wide rear surface facing the rear sight.

TO ADJUST ELEVATION:

Set the rear sight 3 to 5 clicks up. This is allows slack for changes in light or ammunition velocity later.

Adjust the rifle for elevation using the front sight only. Fire a group at the shortest range you’ll use in competition. Adjust the front sight in complete turns. Stop adjusting the blade when the group is centered on the target or when the next turn would shift the group above the target center. Final adjustment will be performed using the elevation knob only.

Record your zero at the other ranges you’ll use (normally 100, 200, 300, and 600 yards), with the various cartridges used.

TO ADJUST WINDAGE:

ArmaLite’s exclusive windage knob is marked with digits so that you can easily record your sight setting, and feature ¼ minute windage adjustments. Windage is otherwise adjusted the same as standard sights.

ArmaLite reverses the rear sight aperture casting to present a flat surface to the shooter, and thereby reduce the reflections from the normal spherical surfaces. The two apertures drilled in the casting are on different centers so each has its own zero. If you plan to switch apertures in response to different light condition, you’ll have to record both zeros.
